Does anyone need anything from Walmart? This wallaby would be hoppy to grab it.
On Monday, Dec. 29, Rex the wallaby escaped from his enclosure at Lots of Love Farm petting zoo in Williamstown, N.J.
“Rex our wallaby got out of his [enclosure] last night,” the facility posted on Facebook with a video. “He is friendly but on the run. If you see him or happen to catch him in a fenced area call the farm.”
The 3-foot-tall marsupial was found safe the following day in a local Walmart parking lot in Gloucester County.
Ron Layden, the owner of the petting zoo where Rex resides, told local ABC station WPVI that the animal escaped while he was relocating the wallaby because of the cold weather, but “the cage didn’t get all the way shut.”

Caitlyn Evangelista, who knew Rex was missing, happened to be in the Walmart parking lot when the wallaby jumped by, per WPVI.
“I screamed like, ‘Stop, I think I see it.’ And then, you know, I tried to get a closer look, and I saw that you know, it was a wallaby,” Evangelista told the outlet. “I was just like, I couldn’t believe it. Like, there’s no way we just found this thing. It’s been lost for hours.”
Shoppers at Walmart also recalled doing a double-take upon seeing the animal. “I was just picking up milk for my little brother. My mom sent me here,” Klarissa Harper told the outlet. “And I’m leaving the parking lot, and I look over, and something’s hopping in front of my car.”
A group of young men with a net and a cage helped Lots of Love wrangle Rex and bring him back home.
“WELL , IF THIS JUST DIDN’T BECOME THE BEST NIGHT EVER! WITH THE HELP OF SOME REALLY COOL KIDS AND A REALLY COOL DAD. WE CAUGHT REX AT THE WALMART!!,” a Facebook update shared on Tuesday, Dec. 30, read.
“HE IS HOME SAFE AND SOUND! THANK YOU EVERYONE YOU’RE ALL AMAZING. HE MUST REALLY LIKE WALMART!!!LOL.”
People online were thrilled that Rex made it back safe. “He looks like he’s already plotting his next escape,” one person wrote. “Surprised Rex wasn’t found at an Outback restaurant,” another joked, referring to the animal’s Australian roots.
“Wallaby at Walmart was not on my bingo list, but I’m glad that he’s home safe now,” a third said.
