Husband and Wife, Both 96, Share the Simple Secret to Their 75-Year Marriage

One couple in California ended the year by celebrating a special milestone — their 75th wedding anniversary.

On Tuesday, Dec. 30, Eloise and Calvin Rogers, both 96, marked their wedding anniversary at the Cogir Senior Living Community with a special celebration attended by their son, Jay Rogers, and other friends and family, according to The Press Democrat.

“75 is special. We’re very happy to be here,” Calvin told the outlet of the celebration which included a bottle of champagne and a pink and white cake decorated with candle numbers seven and five.

But for Eloise and Calvin, who married at 21 after meeting at a library at the University of New Mexico, where Eloise was studying art, and Calvin was studying mathematics, the secret to a long marriage is simple.

The couple told The Press Democrat that it’s all about taking everything one day at a time.

“We met each other and the library and we kept meeting each other [after that],” Eloise said. Their love for one another is simple.

“Every night they kiss good night to each other and every morning they kiss good morning,” added Norma Alvarez, the Health and Wellness Director at Cogir, told The Press Democrat.

Alvarez added that the couple was voted Valentine’s King and Queen at the senior living community.

“They were nominated by almost all the staff and almost all the residents because we all see the love.”
