Ashley Biden is ending her marriage.
The 44-year-old daughter of President Joe Biden has filed for divorce from her husband of more than 13 years, Dr. Howard Krein, according to court records.
Ashley submitted the paperwork in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas on Monday (August 11), The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

On the same day, she posted an Instagram Story featuring a photo of herself walking through a park and giving a thumbs-up, set to Beyoncé’s hit “Freedom.” She also shared a quote reading, “New life, new beginnings means new boundaries. New ways of being that won’t look or sound like they did before.”
The reason for the split has not been made public, as divorce records are not accessible in Philadelphia.
Howard is a 59-year-old otolaryngologist and plastic surgeon at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia.
The couple tied the knot in June 2012 in Greenville, Delaware. They were introduced two years earlier by Ashley’s late brother, Beau Biden.
Howard proposed in late 2011 on a cliff in Big Sur, California, after getting the blessing of then–Vice President Biden. “This is the right guy,” Joe said at the time, via New York Post. “And he’s getting a helluva woman.”
The couple wed at the St. Joseph on the Brandywine Roman Catholic Church, where Ashley was baptized, in front of roughly 200 guests. They lived in Philadelphia, and did not have children. The two were last seen publicly together in July 2024 attending President Biden’s televised address announcing his decision not to seek reelection.
