Thomas Rhett and wife Lauren Akins’ love story is the stuff of romance movies.
The country singer, 35, hopped on a new TikTok trend that showcased his sweet origin story with Lauren, 36, which began when they were children.
The trend begins with a line from Billy Joel’s “Piano Man,” showing a pivotal moment from one’s life. The song then goes into the chorus of Fleetwood Mac’s fan favorite “Silver Springs,” and users share the outcome of listening to their guts, and letting fate unfold the way it did.
Thomas Rhett’s version says, “One day you’ll realize you’re in love with your best friend. It’s VERY important that you tell her that.”
“Piece of advice,” he captioned the post.
In the beginning of the video, Lauren walks into a homecoming event arm-in-arm with another classmate, while Thomas Rhett looks on sadly in his football jersey. Another throwback clip shows them laughing as teenagers, before the video jumps ahead to their current life together as a married couple.
The pair first met as kids, and were friends for years before dating as teenagers in high school. They broke up, and both dated other people, only to reconnect in their early 20s.
“I’d loved that girl since high school, and I told her father how I felt. He said, ‘If you don’t tell her, I’m going to.’ It was a total Ryan Gosling moment,” Thomas Rhett told HITS Daily Double in 2019. “I said to her, ‘I just want to kiss you one time. If you don’t feel anything, we can go back to being friends.’”

They tied the knot in October 2012 at just 22 years old, and are now parents to daughters Willa Gray, 10, Ada James, 8, Lennon Love, 5, and Lillie Carolina, 4.
Lauren and the “Die a Happy Man” singer announced in August that they’re expecting their fifth child together.
“Here we go again! We’ve got some really excited big sisters in our house. God is so good,” Thomas Rhett captioned the post
In November, the pair also shared a sweet family video of Lauren sharing the happy news with her family, including a shocked Thomas Rhett, who laughed with surprise and asked, “Are you serious?”
“Finding out about #5,” he captioned the post. “Saw that phone propped up from a mile away and knew Laur was up to something 😂”
