Nigerian singer Davido has revealed the trials and tribulations he went through and the emotions he experienced, when he first started in the entertainment industry. He even told that the first big show would be without him being at school and that his father’s disapproval after it was telecasted on national television would be his punishment. The African music star contrasted the incident with his present and still growing success, one of which was a triumphant run in a Nigerian stadium just recently. He also talked about his upcoming birthday concert in Atlanta, thus showing everyone that he is at the top of the music world with no limit to his rise.

David Adeleke, known by his stage name Davido, chose to share a part of his magnificent career through a touching Instagram post. He took his followers back to 2011, which he called a turning point in his career when he had one of his first big breaks. The singer shared how the contemporary musical artist and famous person Lynxxx from Denmark had invited him to perform in Ibadan while he was studying in Lagos. Later Davido was joined by other artists on the Lynxxx and Friends Tour like Asa, Peju, B Red, and Sina. The young Davido had no idea he was part of an event that would get filmed and aired on Soundcity, a very popular music channel of the time. Now what was the price of his ignorance? Father, billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke, saw the performance on TV and the child genius “got into a lot of trouble.”
What a difference a decade and a half would make, however, everything is turned upside down, “Davido is adventurous;” “14 years later, we wrecked the stadium,” he said. He was referring to his latest ‘5ive Alive’ tour of Nigeria which he hailed as “a revolution for the books,” it was indeed one of the most successful tours not only in the Nigerian music scene but also in the entire African one. A successful tour was not only about personal victory but also a reminder to the whole industry. “Build back home and give back to our roots,” was the message Davido sent out, reiterating that investing in Nigeria is vital. He also expressed gratitude to all the sponsors who backed what he called a “historic tour.”
The announcement of the artist’s upcoming projects created lots of excitement among his fans. While confirming that Abuja and Lagos were the next stops in Nigeria, Davido also mentioned that his very next destination was Atlanta, Georgia. He would celebrate his birthday at the State Farm Arena with a concert on November 20.
Davido’s post echoed loud and clear in his followers’ minds. Moreover, it came with so many comments that showed his unique bond with the fans. A user jokingly pointed the difference of consequences between rich and poor kids, saying “Rich man pikin _ I got in so much trouble. Poor man pikin _ I got beaten by my dad and fainted.” The comment brilliantly captured the universal yet differently scaled dilemma of parental disapproval.
One of the main points of admiration was hard work. Another follower could not believe Davido’s tireless energy and asked, “Do u ever really rest? I don’t think I know anyone as busy as u are, traveling daily from one country to another. May God keep you healthy and safe on your journey.” This is how much effort goes into maintaining his global visibility.
In 2011 I skipped school to perform in Ibadan. Asa, Peju, B Red and Sina picked me up from Babcock and we drove to join the Lynxxx and Friends Tour. I had no idea it was going to air on Soundcity, and when my pops saw it I got in so much trouble.

Besides, many of the responses were simply reaffirmations of loyalty and admiration. One netizen stated succinctly, “David is the only one who can pull this off,” which was a sentiment echoed by another, “You can’t even hate him man.” The tag “001” given to Davido was frequently seen in the comments, with one saying, “How can someone like this not love his fellow man?…literally obsessed with 001.”
Among the comments, there was one that touched and it had to do with his character that served as a national comfort. The user confided, “Thank you for always keeping the motherland in your heart.” “Even when things are difficult in the country your music is like a soothing balm …we love you.” This suggests that for many Nigerians, his music is like a magic wand that brings them joy and pride even in the midst of the country’s struggles and hardships.
The extent of people’s excitement for him to be in Atlanta was most vividly expressed by one diehard fan’s statement: “November 20th should be a national holiday,” thus indicating how significant the event would be. Another one even made a direct comment on the birthday coincidence: “You want to celebrate my birthday??? See you in Atlanta.”
