A new viral obsession is taking over TikTok, and this time, it’s all about “Group 7.”

It started as a clever experiment by singer Sophia James, who decided to test TikTok’s algorithm while promoting her new single “So Unfair.”

She posted seven versions of the same video, each labeled as a different “group,” ending with the final post declaring: “If you’re watching this, you’re in Group 7…I don’t know what that says about you, but you’re in Group 7.”

What began as a marketing stunt quickly turned into a social media movement, as fans who found the “Group 7″ on their FYP (For You Page) claimed themselves as the cool, elite group.

Celebrities like Madelyn Cline, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Bebe Rexha and Barbara Corcoran began joining in, and even brands like Sainsbury’s and Argos have joined in on the joke.

The result has been major marketing gold for the singer-songwriter, whose song has become the “Group 7″ unofficial anthem. She’s even organized a meet-up of Group 7 fans in London this Friday (October 24). Get the details!
