Mariah Carey reacquainted herself with an iconic Aussie delicacy on Friday, as she performed Down Under for the first time in 11 years.
The pop superstar, 56, was performing at Brisbane Showground alongside the likes of Pitbull and Wiz Khalifa for the Fridayz Live RnB festival.
During a break in the set, Mariah sat on a stool and produced a jar of the ubiquitous Australian spread, Vegemite—with some fans recognising the stunt she was about to pull.
The singer proceeded to dip a teaspoon into the jet-black concoction, coming up with a scoop that would make even the most seasoned Vegemite connoisseur wince.
It was a fact not lost on the audience, as fans could be heard shouting, ‘That’s too much,’ as the five-time Grammy winner prepared to bite down.
She didn’t heed the warnings, however, and slipped a sizeable portion gingerly into her mouth.

It was a decision she soon regretted, as Mariah stared back at the crowd, slightly shaking her head before offering an unimpressed: ‘No.’
She then proceeded to walk to the back of the stage to discard the offending item.
It seems Mariah may be somewhat of a glutton for punishment, as it wasn’t the first time she had attempted the stunt on stage.
The singer also taste-tested a spoon of Vegemite on stage in Sydney back in 2013 during her Triumphant tour.
The legendary chanteuse was performing at Allphones Arena (now Qudos Bank Arena).
‘I’ll take another taste of the Vegemite for all y’all Aussies out there,’ she told the crowd in her best Antipodean lilt. ‘Even though I can’t do the accent.’
She was clearly unimpressed as she demanded a beverage to help wash down the yeasty spread.
‘If somebody doesn’t bring me a glass of champagne in 1.5 seconds everybody’s fired,’ she said before trying to talk herself out of the distaste.

‘It’s not that,’ she told the crowd, before comically placing her hand on her forehead as though she were about to faint.
‘It just shows how much I love you guys, okay,’ she said, rounding out the bit.
The repetition was not lost on fans, with some taking to social media to point out the re-run.
‘I’ve already seen it before,’ one commented on X, sharing a clip from Mariah’s 2013 performance.
Another chimed in, claiming Mariah also attempted the taste test way back in 1998.
‘This isn’t new though, she tried it before on the Butterfly tour,’ the fan wrote.
