AFLW star reveals shock family health ‘scare’: ‘She didn’t know who she was’

Moana Hope has opened up about a shocking family health scare that left her mother hospitalised.

The AFLW star, 37, took to Instagram on Friday, posting a series of clips to update followers on her mother Rosemary’s condition.

‘I’ve had lots of people ask how mum is, so I thought I’d give you an update. Firstly, she’s okay, which is the most important thing,’ she began.

Continuing, Moana revealed that her mother had suffered a heart attack as well as another rare and ‘scary’ condition.

‘She also had this thing called global amnesia,’ she added.

‘Basically it wiped all of her memories—everything. She didn’t know who she was or who anyone was or what anything was.’

Moana, who is one of 14 siblings, added that she was one of the few people Rosemary had any recollection of.

‘She thought she only had two kids, and I was one of them that she remembered so I was pretty happy with that,’ she said.

‘But it was really f***ing scary in the moment, watching her go through her heart attack and this global amnesia and just not knowing whether it was global amnesia or a stroke, whether it was permanent.

‘We just didn’t know and it was just a really scary week of the unknown.’

Continuing, Moana praised Rosemary for her inherent strength in the face of the shocking heath scare.

‘She’s the most incredible, resilient woman—I might just say that because she’s my mum—but this woman, she just keeps going; she’s incredible,’ she said.

‘But to watch her go through that was just really f***ing scary.’

After praising doctors and staff at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Moana gave followers an insight into the toll her mother’s scare had taken on her personally.

‘Not to make it about me right now, but I’m cooked,’ she said.

‘I’m physically, mentally, emotionally exhausted, and I’m actually looking forward to a full day’s worth of work today just so I can focus on something different.’

Rounding out the post, Moana continued: ‘Most importantly she’s okay. She’s a freak of a human—her resilience is unmatched. I’m grateful it scared the living hell out of me.’

She also took to Instagram to share a photo that showed her mother recuperating with a smile on her face as she sat next to her doting daughter.
