The outlet credits a new court filing for the information that stems from Sony’s ongoing lawsuit against Tencent over Light of Motiram, which the film studio describes as a “slavish clone” of Aloy’s saga.
Amid the legal proceedings, new details have emerged about the planned film adaptation, with The Games Post reporting that a script for the live-action adaptation has been finished and the search for a director is underway. Sony supposedly hopes to release the movie in 2027.
This info comes from head of PlayStation Productions, Asad Qizilbash‘s sworn declaration.
“We are in development for a film based on Horizon in partnership with Columbia Pictures. We already have a working script and are actively searching for a director, with the goal of shooting the picture in 2026 and releasing it in 2027,” he said.
Asad also pointed out how integral the main character, Aloy, is to the world of Horizon Zero Dawn, calling her a “key icon in the anticipated film.”
Previously, Horizon Zero Dawn was going to be adapted as a Netflix series with The Umbrella Academy‘s Steve Blackman at the helm. But that series never came to fruition.
