Lizzie Kieffer is reflecting on simpler times following the tragic death of her 1-year-old daughter, Lilian “Lily” Louise.

The Missouri-based influencer and physical therapist, who has over 368,000 followers on Instagram, shared an emotional clip on the social media site on Monday, Oct. 13, which was seemingly taken days before her daughter Lily died on April 23.

The video followed Kieffer’s “morning as a mom of two and 18 weeks pregnant,” showing her daily routine as she journaled and did a workout before her older daughter, Mia, woke up, followed by Lily.

“Say good morning,” Kieffer said at one point while holding up Lily, who had a bottle of milk in her hand, to the camera.

The content creator — who uses her background in physical therapy and fitness to teach women about health — captioned the post, “I’ve had this in my drafts since the Friday before everything… such a normal day, everyone was happy and healthy,” adding, “I think about this post often, how I want to go back to this simple day.”

Kieffer shared on Instagram on Sept. 14 that she and her husband, Matt, had welcomed their third child, daughter Isla.

She added in Monday’s caption that despite wanting to go back to the day featured in the video, she’s “also so happy Isla is here and part of our everyday now.”

Kieffer recalled how “the message was about gratitude” when the family attended church on Sunday, writing, “Gratitude for everything we have but also everything God has taken away. Gratitude for the simple things we have. Not getting caught up in what more we could have, the what ifs that turn our heart away,” adding a Bible verse.

“I’m not grateful for what happened, that goes without saying quite obviously. But the gratitude goes toward being able to be her mom and the gift of HER. Knowing her,” Kieffer shared.

She continued, “I’ve always practiced gratitude… everyday the first thing I say. And in every journal the first thing I write ‘thank you Jesus for this day, another day to be alive. And thank you for my family and my health.’ Every single day. But it’s never hit me to think of gratitude in this way. Amongst uncertainty and pain.”

Kieffer said she knows “days like this aren’t promised,” adding in the caption, “They aren’t a given. I’m grateful for this life He has given me. I’m so grateful for the gift of Lily. The gift of Matt, Mia, Isla, my ability to move my body and be healthy.”

The influencer wrote, “Yes, I want to go back to this day so badly, moving through my day with Lily on my hip. And I always will feel that way, wishing she was here in person for every milestone, every big event, every mundane day. I ask God why, all the time. But nothing I do can change it. And for that reason I HAVE to choose gratitude, I HAVE to find the joy, I HAVE to welder up strength to continue.”

“Not every day is like this, most definitely. But each day I wake up with a ‘thank you Jesus,’ my heart mends sliver by sliver. It’s a far from perfect thank you – but I try everyday,” she said.

Kieffer insisted she hadn’t been “intending to write” the message, “or anything at all today,” adding, “But my heart feels open and feels like it’s spilling these words, so I don’t think twice, I just write it. And I hope sharing it can give you a look inside our family’s heart. ❤️”

“Happy 18 months Lily girl 👼🏼,” she concluded in the caption.

Kieffer’s post comes after she opened up about the tragic loss of Lily in a heartbreaking Instagram message shared on April 26, revealing the little one had died the Wednesday prior.

“We are shattered,” Kieffer began her statement. “Wednesday we woke up to a nightmare that we never could have ever imagined becoming our reality. Our Lily passed away.”

“Our hearts, our bodies, our souls ache for her as she was the purist of beings and brought light to every single space she filled,” she wrote. “Our days are written before we were even formed, and in Lily’s 374 days of life, she taught us more than I think many could in their lifetime.”
