Kelly Clarkson’s Special Rule For The Voice Staff After Ex’s Death – Perez Hilton

Kelly Clarkson had a special request following her ex-husband’s death.

After Brandon Blackstock tragically died of cancer in August, the Because of You songstress took a leave of absence from shooting Season 29 of The Voice to mourn the loss and be there for her children. Last month she made her return — but not without rules.

On Monday, an insider told The US Sun staff members on The Voice were specifically directed NOT to bring up Brandon’s death altogether:

“[Brandon’s] passing delayed some crucial parts of the season, like certain tapings and shooting promo but they were able to make up for loss [sic] time so ultimately, it ended up getting evened out. When [Kelly] came back, [the production team] was all told not to bring it up. Not to bring up Brandon, even if just to say we were sorry.”

That makes sense — the poor girl has to get through her day! She doesn’t want that set feeling like a funeral! And the source agrees:

“I mean look, I get it, she was there to work and doesn’t need to be reminded of this tragedy every 5 seconds. It’d be too emotional. And everyone on the set loves Kelly, no one wants to upset her so they were happy to oblige.”

We’re glad everyone gets it. Especially when things were (and still are) so fresh.

The insider noted that overall, Kelly was “flooded” with love and support on set, but that everyone kept things “strictly professional.”

When the Since U Been Gone singer returned to continue filming in September, a source described her as “very solemn” and “way less chatty” than before. They recalled:

“She was professional and did all her bits and hit her marks, but she didn’t seem as happy, outgoing, or excited as she was previously on The Voice.”

Yeah, not surprising. They added:

“At one point during her contestant’s performance of an emotional ballad during the Battle Rounds, Kelly wiped away some tears. I think she looked around to do it when the cameras weren’t on her and the lights were dim. She seemed to try to hold it together, but when the cameras weren’t on her, she let out some tears.”

We can’t imagine how incredibly difficult it is for Kelly to try and resume a normal life after such a devastating family tragedy. But she’s doing her best!
