Role Model Makes His ‘SNL’ Debut as Musical Guest with Surprise Cameo From Charli XCX During ’Sally, When the Wine Runs Out’

The singer, 28, made his musical guest debut on Saturday Night Live during the second episode of season 51 on Oct. 11, which was hosted by Amy Poehler.

During a performance of his viral hit “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out,” Role Model called out, “Where’s my Sally tonight?” The audience was left screaming when Charli XCX suddenly walked through a set of doors.

The “Apple” singer, 33, waved at Role Model as she strutted across the stage while he continued to sing. She appeared to be wearing a “Max’s Kansas City” T-shirt in a nod to the singer, after he was seen wearing the same top in promo videos for SNL earlier in the week.

Before the performance concluded, Charli took off her blacked-out sunglasses to put on Role Model and then exited the stage.

Charli is the latest celebrity to make a cameo as Role Model’s “Sally” in what has now become a tradition for the singer when he performs the hit song. 

He recently had Hilary Duff make a surprise appearance as “Sally” while performing the song at Austin City Limits Music Festival in Texas on Oct. 3. He also previously had Charli’s friend and collaborator Troye Sivan show up as “Sally,” along with Natalie Portman, Reneé Rapp and Conan Gray.

Charli’s appearance onstage with Role Model came amid faux “Sally” drama between the pair, after Role Model posted a photo on Instagram of him and Sivan, 30, onstage together, with Charli jokingly writing in response, “Keep him xx,” referring to Sivan, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The pair appeared to be back on good terms as they showed off their dance moves during Saturday’s SNL performance.

Charli is also known for bringing out surprise celebrity guests during her shows, including Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Gracie Abrams and model Alex Consani.

The “Boys” singer previously hosted SNL for the first time in 2024, where she also appeared as a music guest.

Role Model’s SNL debut came as Amy Poehler hosted with surprise cameos from Tina Fey and Seth Meyers. He later returned to the stage to perform “Some Protector.”
