While speaking with Variety to promote his new movie Roofman, Channing notes that there was a script for the third movie, that he says was “sincerely the best script I’ve ever read for me and Jonah [Hill],” but it has been repeatedly stalled, and he explains why the movie will probably never get made.

“I get asked more about Jump Street 3 than any other movie on the face of the planet that I’ve ever done,” he tells the publication. “I don’t think it’ll ever happen. The problem is the overhead. It would cost as much as the actual budget of the film — if not more — because of all the producers involved. It’s just too top-heavy. It falls over every time.”

While Channing, Jonah and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have all agreed to smaller producer fees, a holdup is from producer Neal H Moritz.

Neal’s price for a producer fee is huge,” he said. “And to be honest, that’s what’s killing it.”

Among Neal‘s producer credits include the Fast & Furious franchise, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Sonic the Hedgehog, Gen V and The Boys, S.W.A.T. Exiles, Cruel Intentions and more.

21 Jump Street was released in 2012 and the sequel, 22 Jump Street, came out in 2014.

Last year, Channing echoed the same statements as above, but noted that he and Jonah would love to get the movie made!
