Schmigadoon is a love letter to the Golden Age of movie musicals,” Lorne said in a statement. “It’s a little bit nostalgic and a lot of fun. We’re very excited to bring it to Broadway.”

Here’s the synopsis: “New York doctors Josh and Melissa set out on a couples’ backpacking retreat to rekindle the flame, but instead find themselves in Schmigadoon, a magical town that’s a Golden Age musical come to life. The townspeople won’t stop singing, the bridge out leads nowhere, and the only way to escape is by finding true love—which may or may not be with each other.”

The TV series starred Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong as Josh and Melissa, though casting for the Broadway show has not yet been announced.

Preview performances will begin at the Nederlander Theatre on Saturday, April 4 ahead of an official opening night on Monday, April 20. The limited run will play through Sunday, September 6. Tickets go on sale on October 15.

An iconic Broadway star claims she was rejected from appearing on the TV show for being “too old.”
