“Any comedian has kind of like stock personas that they can do. One of mine, a way I find myself talking a lot is like this. And they just sort of took that and ran with it and were just able to serve that energy and it was a natural match.”
On what’s fun about playing older characters:
“I always, like, in high school in the plays I was always 80 plus. I was old. And it’s just fun to destroy your face with makeup and be wearing a white wig. I’m drawn to characters who have chosen to say I’m not doing what everyone else is doing or doing things the way they’re supposed to be done.”

“There are so many hidden skills. Pure human energy. Staying up all night. Caring so much about something over a sustained period of time. Every time there has been a national tragedy that has demanded a sincere cold open, that’s him. It’s his idea. Not just to do it but what it actually is. That’s just, that’s his heart. That’s him knowing instinctively how to respond to the country. Getting people on the phone. He has an eye for talent. And he loves talent and he loves smart people. He’s just knee deep and nose deep in smart people.”
