Andy Richter Makes It Rain

Although he was at the bottom of the leader board last week, Andy is “really trying to own his steps,” partner Emma Slater said ahead of their Tango performance.
He admitted he was having stress dreams ahead of the premiere, but “the wires are turned on now.” Adding, he “really doesn’t want to go home.”
Emma opened their dance with a bit playing a weather reporter to play up their song, “It’s Raining Men” by The Weather Girls, while it cut to Andy wearing a poncho.
“You truly captured the essence of why this show was created,” said Derek. While he critiqued a few moves, he “saw the joy” Andy brought. Bruno also praised their dance as “very, very entertaining.” Carrie Ann’s one-word response was “improve.”

Pushing Through the Pain

Danielle has an extra sweet history with her song, “Rhythm of the Night” by Corona, because it came out the year she began on Boy Meets World in 1994. “My mom was driving me to work every day and we would just belt this song at the top of our lungs,” she said prior to the performance. “Every time I hear that song I think of my whole life changing.”
During their interview ahead of their Cha Cha performance, she revealed she has a hamstring tear that happened in practice. Then, after a deep tissue massage, she said it “broke every blood vessel” in the back of her leg. She assures fans she’s not letting it stop her. Instead, she’s “pushing through the pain.”
Bruno praised her dance for having the “right amount of spice to get me going” while pointing out a few technicalities she needs to improve. Carrie pointed out that she needs to breathe during her routine, while Derek got the one-word response to which he said, “Good.”
When the duo got to Julianne to receive their score, she asked how Danielle’s injury was feeling. “Adrenaline is pumping and thank god for body makeup,” Danielle said.

Alix Taps into Her Competitive Side

Alix and her partner Val Chermansky danced to “Mambo No. 5” by Lou Bega. While Alix explained before the dance that she felt good that she was towards the top of the leaderboard last week, she said that also “unlocked this competitive side of me.”
On the ballroom floor, their dance started off with an electric start as Chermansky jumped over Alix, and finished with a dramatic bend from Alix.
When they went to see how their performance was received by the judges, Carrie Ann, who was absent last week, praised their routine. “Thank you for making that my first dance because that was incredible,” she said, adding, “You blew me away.”
They also impressed Derek who acknowledged it was a “difficult routine” but they did a “fanatic job” thanks to their “powerhouse partnership.”
When it came to Bruno’s reaction, Alfonso explained the third judge needs to answer with one word, in honor of the theme of the night. “Breakthrough,” is what Bruno chose.

“Everybody Dance Now”

The night kicked off with an energetic performance by the troupe dancers to the song “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” as the hosts entered to introduce each contestant.
“That’s gonna make you sweat,” Alfonso said of everyone’s individual intros. He also explained last week’s premiere was “the most watched entertainment show in America.” He then went to the leaderboard where Robert Irwin and his partner Whitney Carson were at the top.
Robert Irwin Gets Some Adorable Practice with His Niece

Ahead of week two’s live show, the wildlife conservationist got in some extra prep time with help from his sister Bindi’s 4-year-old daughter, Grace.
In a clip shared to his Instagram on Saturday, Sept. 20, Robert can be seen talking Grace — the daughter of Bindi and her husband Chandler Powell — through a mini routine in the living room, featuring kicks, spins, jumps and hand-holding. “Did I do it?” Grace asks her uncle in the clip, before he responds with a laugh, “Yeah, that’s it.”
Eventually, as Grace begins to point her legs in unison with Robert, her mom, Bindi (who won season 21), can be heard sharing her approval in the background as Robert confirms, “We did it.”
“10s, all 10s,” he says. “Everybody else can go home now, Grace has won.”
In the caption of his post, Robert wrote that “Grace is making sure my dance training continues when I get home.”
