Hayley Williams released her new solo album Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party at the end of August. The title track includes the lyrics “I’ll be the biggest star in this racist country singer’s bar.” On Wednesday, she did an interview on The New York Times podcast Popcast and the hosts asked her who she was referring to. Although she said there are a couple of different people it could be, she then said, “I’m always talking about Morgan Wallen, I don’t give a shit. Find me at Whole Foods, bitch, I don’t care.” If you want to watch, it’s at the 48:33 mark.
In August, she said during a Stereogum interview that his bar is her least favorite musician-owned Nashville establishment, adding, “When you open a business, you don’t just put your name on it. Like you come up with something, right? It can have your DNA in it, but I don’t understand the bars that are just people’s names.”
For anyone asking, “Whomst?”
* Morgan Wallen was supposed to perform on SNL during the pandemic (October 2020) while COVID protocols such as a limited in-studio audience, mask mandates, and rapid testing were in place, but SNL canceled his appearance because there were a bunch of videos showing him attending a University of Alabama football game and partying in Tuscaloosa (which included doing shots and kissing girls, all unmasked)
* In February 2021, he was caught calling someone the n-word on a neighbor’s doorbell cam. As a result, he promised to donate $500k to several Black charities. When Rolling Stone investigated in September 2021, they found that only one Black charity had received a donation and that Wallen had canceled several meetings with the NAACP
* In April 2024, he was arrested and charged with three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct for throwing a chair from the roof of a Nashville bar
