-Malin Åkerman joins NSBNF to talk all things The Hunting Wives, from the wig, the tan, and sex scenes everyone’s calling their “lesbian awakening,” to how she landed the role, prepped for it, and whether she’s anything like Margo. We also get into her career (27 Dresses forever!!), her Scandinavian upbringing, and how she balances Hollywood with motherhood.
-Addressing the wig, Akerman had this to say: “So first of all, I had a wig fitting in L.A. and then they go off and they make a wig that is sized for my head,” she recalled, explaining that when they arrived in North Carolina for screen testing, the wig “fits great and whatever, but it’s not quite the color or the shape that we talked about. And I walk in and I see Rebecca [Cutter, showrunner]’s face and she’s like, ‘Oh, this isn’t what we talked about. This isn’t the wig that we were hoping for’ kinda thing.”
-She continues: “It looked a little bit like I’d walked out of Dallas or Dynasty. Like, I’m not gonna lie,” she admitted, adding, “It was not great.” Due to lack of time, the hairdressers took Akerman back and pulled out a “box of wigs” to find an alternative option. “She’s like, ‘What about this one?’ ” she shared, saying that it was “not fitted for my head, but the color is good and it’s really long and we can do something with it. takes weeks to make a new wig,” Akerman said that they decided to use that one while a “proper” new wig was made. “But when it came, it was a different color.”
-The scene where Margo was seen “getting glammed up” with “tinfoil in my hair.” was created “because the new wig was lighter,” and the team decided to “just pretend like she just got it lightened.”
-“Candidly, I’ve had a lot of thyroid … I have a thyroid issue, and so my hair quality just hasn’t wasn’t great at the time. And so thinking of, like, dying it and putting extensions in and stuff, it was just gonna start falling out,” the actress said, adding that they ultimately decided the wig would give them the “really beautiful hair.” and should they get a 2nd season they may try to dye her hair.
